During the event, six authors from Latvia, Estonia and Finland translated and wrote literary works at the International Writers and Translators Centre (TVRC) in Nida.

Latvian playwright and writer Lauris Gundars was in residence at the TVRC from September to November 2022. The book is currently illustrated by the popular Latvian illustrator Reinis Pētersons, and the 96-page book will be available in bookstores at the end of this year or early next year (LIELS UN MAZS publishing house).

In April and May 2023, the Centre hosted Estonian translator-in-residence Maria Esko and writer and translator Maarja Pärtna. Maria Esko, a translator specialising in contemporary French fiction, has translated Alice Zeniter’s novel Jusque dans nos bras into Estonian at the Esko Residency, and it will be on Estonian bookshelves in two weeks, in Nida, writer and translator Maarja Pärtna wrote an essay that won first prize in the Müyürelehe and Mondo literary competitions, as well as poems, some of which have been published in the Estonian Writers’ Union’s magazine Looming.

This year, the Artist residencies competition was won by three artists – Tilo Eckardt, a writer from Finland, Dace Meiere, a translator, and Inga Pizane, a poet from Latvia.

In collaboration with the Thomas Mann Cultural Centre, writer Tilo Eckardt has been intensively researching the period of Thomas Mann’s life in Nida – looking for documents, studying old photographs and archives, and walking along the very same Pomeranian coastline that Thomas Mann once admired so much.
