Nida has always attracted me: it is not only a comfortable place for artistic creation, but also a space for inner renewal. Life, when I don’t have to get on a bus several times a day to go to the university, hospital, library or the seaside, when the lagoon is just there, silent or mysteriously whispering, and when I stop at the Parnidis dune, the blue expanse of the sky and the water glows with new shades every moment, brings back to me my own creative self: the joy of exploration, of observation, of oneness with the forest and the sea, of looking at what is indestructible and protectable. In Nida, I like to see the blue ribbons of dawn over the lagoon in the mornings, to say hello to the rising sun, and in the evenings, to say goodbye to the sun by the sea or on the dunes of Parnidis. When I say hello and goodbye to the sun, I discover the day as a spiritual mystery, not as a period of time during which we have to do this or that work. In Nida, nature takes me away from my desk, but nurtures me as a creator.

I had the wonderful experience and opportunity to watch the arrival of spring in Nida in March and April. My stay in the TVRC German-style house was comfortable in every way. The location of the centre is excellent – very close to the beautiful lagoon and the heart of the city, but still far enough away to enjoy peace and quiet for creative work and good rest. Everything I needed was within walking distance, and the TVRC staff were always very helpful and quick to respond whenever I asked for something. I will definitely return to this unique safe haven as soon as I can. Thank you so much for taking such good care of me!

The International Centre for Translators and Writers is located in our beautiful city of Nida, quite conveniently, with the Curonian Lagoon waving by, and Thomas Mann’s house on a hill nearby. The sea is a little further away, but it’s fun to reach it by strolling through the forest paths. We stayed in the TVRC’s new house, room 206. There is plenty of space, a fully equipped kitchenette, and you can work on the Centre’s computer at the desk. And the Nida environment is sure to create a working mood. There is a promenade along the Curonian Lagoon, where you can walk or jog. You can interact with other residents or staff as much as you like. You can really relax and get things done here.

Some of my books – “The Organisation That Talks” and “The Organisation You Want to Work For” – were written at the International Centre for Translators and Writers. It’s a great place to concentrate, to clear your thoughts and then put them all into the pages of a book.

At the beginning of June this year (2021), I spent a third of the month at the TVRC, which was a great opportunity to rest and work (of course, at this time of the year it was all about rest, but the working conditions were also very good). The nature was great, the lagoon, the Baltic Sea and its coastline, you just couldn’t get everywhere, especially as it was a good time for fishing, both in the lagoon and on the sea. I won’t brag about the catches, you won’t believe it anyway…
But we did have lunch for a few days with plaice caught at sea. The cleanliness of all the rooms and the meticulous care of the surroundings made a particularly good impression. Many thanks to the TVRC staff, Brigitte and Rugila.

The TVRC’s cultural purpose makes it an integral part of the city of Neringa, enriching its phenomenon. Translators, writers and poets in residence here find an inspiring atmosphere for their creative work. The staff of the Centre, with their sincerity and diligence, undoubtedly contribute to a clean and calm atmosphere. So many thanks for the opportunity to reside and create here.

I spent two weeks working and relaxing in a beautiful residence in Nida. I am extremely grateful to the Ievos Simonaitytė Library and the International Centre for Writers and Translators in Nida for this opportunity… The beautiful location, the unique environment, the silence, the fresh air, the feeling of a home in the woods between the sea and the lagoon…
