Artist Giedrius Bagdonas and his gift to the Centre
On 12 September, an exhibition was opened at the Nida Community House, presenting the works created during the XXXI International Plein Air Painting Workshop “Nida Expression”. This year, the Plein Air Workshop, which continues the traditions of the expressionist Brücke generation, was dedicated to the memory of Latvian painter Aija Zarinios (1954-2025).
This time, artist Giedrius Bagdonas was in residence at the International Centre for Translators and Writers, working together with colleagues from Lithuania and abroad. He donated his work to the Centre, adding to its art collection.
The creative sessions took place in various spaces in Nida – by the seaside, on the dunes, by the lighthouse and in the harbour. Here, from 4-12 September, the painters sought an authentic dialogue with the Curonian Spit’s natural landscape and the local community. Artists from Lithuania, Latvia, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Italy, India, Canada, Belgium, Switzerland and the United Kingdom took part in „Nida Expression“.
The opening of the exhibition revealed the diversity of the plein-air workshop – the visual expressions of different painters, as well as their diverse artistic perspectives. Visitors to the exhibition had the opportunity not only to see the works, but also to meet the artists themselves, who presented their creative visions and did not hide their admiration for the special spirit of Neringa.
Here are some moments from the closing exhibition of the plein air workshop.
