Dainius Dirgėla, a poet, playwright and photographer, has started his residency in Neringa, and plans to continue his photohaiku (photo + haiku) project “Neringa’s phototrieils”.
Last year, D. Dirgėla was awarded a scholarship from the Municipality of Neringa, which gives him the opportunity to spend one autumn, winter or spring month (from October to April) at the International Centre for Translators and Writers in Neringa.
D. Dirgėla started to create a series of Neringa’s photographic rubbings, in which the photo frame and the trio written for it complement each other, during his residency at the International Centre for Translators and Writers in 2023. He is continuing this work in Neringa in April this year.
“As planned, I am continuing with the NERINGOS PHOTOTO SERIES, which I started in Nida in April 2023 and continued in April 2024 during my residency at TVRC. I’ve already caught a few shots and trills, so it’s quite a fruitful start. I will be able to share the new photo trials I made here in Nida at the end of the residency. The next creative work is to finish writing and arranging the manuscript of the book of poems and to get it ready for submission to a publisher. While the change of environment and the magic of Nida is working more strongly in the first few weeks, I hope to get some new poems signed, and then the puzzle of revising the written poems and the structure of the book manuscript awaits. <… > So there are a lot of creative plans and works during the residency. Let’s see how many of them will be realised by the end of April.”
