Thoughts on Nida and her work by poet and prose writer Jūratė Sučylaitė

Jūratė Sučylaitė, a poet and prose writer and a participant of the Individual Creative Residency project, who is visiting the International Centre for Translators and Writers in Nida, shares her thoughts about Nida and her work:

“I came to Nida to shake off the fatigue that had been accumulating for hours while sitting in front of the computer or taking the bus to the city centre, to refresh my senses, to concentrate, to be silent, to not be distracted. Nida offers ideal conditions for the peace-seeking developer. Few people, lots of space. I live according to my inner rhythm, waking up at dawn but before the sun rises. At sunrise, I’m already at the lagoon and enjoying the magic of the sunrise colours. Monday evening’s sunset and Tuesday’s sunrise were exceptional, like a gift from God. I look at the distances of the lagoon and the sea, the reflections of the sky in the water, the reflections of my soul – I am cleansed. I absorb moments of light, they become part of my inner life, my inner light, my strength. For me, creativity is about growth, moving into new spaces of reflection and life, authentically speaking the soul. When I write, I have to find the courage to open up, to see with open eyes my own being, the scar of historical trauma. It’s not easy, it’s painful. It is empowered by the light within, opening up a new, brighter horizon and the will to move forward. As the wave of pain subsides, a text of greater or lesser aesthetic value, but always the result of a spiritual step, amazement, is put on paper and helps me to understand myself better…”
