On 20 June, the Thomas Mann Museum hosted a warm and engaging meeting with Dr Rūta Kačkutė, archaeologist, PhD in History, Director of the Lithuanian National Museum. During the event, the author’s debut children’s book “Amber Road: from Rome to the Baltic” was presented. Participants of the event were invited not only to immerse themselves in historical stories, but also to participate in educational workshops.
The meeting attracted a large number of visitors – from adults interested in history to young readers. During the event, the author shared her thoughts on the birth of the book, revealing that she wrote the last chapters of the book at the International Centre for Translators and Writers’ Residence in Nida.
The main theme of the evening is the legendary Amber Road, where the ancient Romans travelled to the Baltic Sea in search of precious amber. Dr Kačkutė gave a vivid account of the expeditions of Emperor Nero, the journeys of Roman soldiers and merchants and their encounters with the cultures of the Baltic tribes. During the talk, the audience had the opportunity not only to hear about Roman Iron Age research, but also to see how history can be presented in an attractive way for children.
Thank you to Dr Rūta Kačkutė for her inspiring talk and to everyone who attended the event. Here are some of the most memorable moments from the event.
